Presenting works from YNY’s 2015-2019 Visual Arts Exhbitions!
For five years we had the privilege to tap into the rich pool of professional visual artists, of all imaginable backgrounds, who call the New York area home. We presented artists with the challenge to address issues that are fundamentally important to Jewish tradition, culture and spirituality, and at the same time, resonate universally. We expanded the “shtetl on wings”- the global community that attends Yiddish cultural events – to include the gift of confronting large Jewish issues through the creative eyes of talented artists from all walks of life.
Five years of YNY arts shows have also given us the opportunity to work closely with cultural and communal organizations on the Lower East Side, a neighborhood rich in Jewish history. In addition to thanking the artists who participated in these exhibitions, we wish to also thank Yona Verwer, who co-curated our first show, the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center and its staff, Steve Zeitlin, director of CityLore, Colleen Iverson of CityLore Gallery, Jeffrey Katz and Jill Slater of the Stanton Street Synagogue.
We invite you to visit FINF YOR! Five Years of Art from Yiddish New York, a retrospective of the art shown from 2015-2019. (View each year by clicking the links below.) Most of the work you will see is still available for purchase. We encourage you to visit the websites or contact these artists to buy or learn more about their art. A portion of the sales will go to support Yiddish New York.
Best Wishes and a
hartsikn dank,
Tine Kindermann and
Deborah Ugoretz,
co-curators, Yiddish New York.
